AlBirr Credit Union Ltd (ABCU) has officially been registered as a UK Credit Union Society by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) on 12th December 2024, with registration number 765C under the Credit Unions Act 1975. This marks a significant achievement, reflecting over seven years of dedication and hard work since this journey began in 2017.

ABCU is the second halal credit union in the UK. This achievement is also a pioneering moment for the Muslim Communities in the UK. ABCU intends to work collaboratively in the service of the community and its members.

Our vision remains clear: to provide a community-based, ethical financial solution that aligns with Islamic principles while catering to the diverse needs of our members and the wider community, while in strict compliance to the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) and the Prudential Regulation Authority (PRA).

Our Common Bond

AlBirr Credit Union Common Bond Admission to membership is restricted to persons who fall within a common bond appropriate to AlBirr Credit Union, as follows: –

An individual who is a member of any of the following bona fide organisations:
– Vanguard Community.
– Muslim Association of Nigerian UK
– The Federation of Muslim Women’s Association of Nigeria (FOMWA) UK
– The Muslim Platform

– An individual who is associated with other members through attending the following places of worship:
– Muslim Association of Nigerian UK

– An individual who is a member of the same household as, and is a relative of, an individual who is a member of the credit union and falls directly within a common bond specified above.

Note: A member of the listed organisations is defined as an individual who has provided their details to enrol into the organisation and their names are held by the organisation on a register or database of members. An individual application for membership of AlBirr Credit Union will require a supporting statement from the organisation to this effect.
